Pablo the Righteous Puppy
Are you missing the company of a beloved canine? Want the dog but don’t have the time? Busy with work commitments and an active out of work life with social commitments and again, know you don’t have the time for a dog...
We have the answer. In 2010 YPN has partnered with Righteous Pups Australia (RPA), a locally based but nationally focused charity who place Autism Assistance Dogs with Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. These Autism Assistance Dogs are specially trained Labradors bred specifically for the role. The biggest need RPA has on an ongoing basis is a shortage of foster families. Crucial to the development and training of each pup is the need to be raised in loving and supportive, yet active households.
Finding the right families, who have the heart, and are willing to give the dog back, can be difficult. To date, most of the families RPA have in their fostering a pup program are working professionals who find the pups training schedule conducive to a working lifestyle. The unique difference of a Righteous Pup is the requirement for them to attend school 5 days a week. This means, that while you are at work, Monday to Friday, your dog is undergoing their specialist training on site at RPA’s training centre, and not getting bored or destructive in your backyard.
The training centre is flexible to work in with your schedule and is open from 8:00am to 6:00pm weekdays, allowing ample opportunity to drop off and pick up your pup outside work hours. You then have the pleasure of the company of a pup in the evenings and on weekends, with public access rights which enable you to take the pup with you to social events and commitments. In fact, going out and about is essential to the pup’s development.
RPA endeavour to make fostering as simple and enjoyable as possible for their families, providing the food, vet care, and equipment for each dog, and have systems in place to provide on-going support, with optional weekend training dates, 24hr on-call assistance, and respite care if you are going away and it is not conducive to take your pup. Foster families can determine the length of their commitment, be it 12 months, 18 months or longer or shorter, with different forms of fostering available.
So, if you feel that ache, that longing for canine companionship, give Righteous Pups a call today to explore what type of fostering is just right for you!
